October 10th was World Mental Health Day
In honor of World Mental Health Day, I’m going to share some statistics about eating disorders in this post from the ANAD (National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders).
* Eating Disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness * Every 62 minutes at least one person dies as a direct result from an eating disorder * 50-80% of the risk for anorexia and bulimia is genetic * 0.9% of American women suffer from anorexia in their lifetime * 1 in 5 anorexia deaths is by suicide I’m sharing these statistics because there is an unbelievable amount of eating disorder myths out there in the world. I hope to raise more awareness to eating disorders and break the stigmas.
To all those who have a mental illness my message to you is you are not alone and stay strong. Together we can break the stigmas and spread awareness.
No Retreat. No Surrender. JR
